Varies significantly. When I am out in the field my day to day role tends to involve supervision of a drilling crew as well as geological rock core logging or geological mapping. These days can be long and involve getting dirty but they are a lot of fun and I have seen some fantastic parts of Australia. When i am in the office the hours are a little nicer and a little closer to an 8 hour day. they tend to be spent behind a computer doing analysis on data collected while out in the field. My role is split about 65:35 field: office.

When I'm on site I'm a site supervisor on a drill rig, overseeing the work going on. I also describe and log the core that is drilled. When I'm in the office, I work on compiling and analysing all the data that is collected on site.
